Detailed Job Description

The Department of Public and Health Administration in the College of Business and Public Management at the University of La Verne is seeking to hire a full time faculty member for our Health Services Management Program for the fall term 2015. This is a tenure track position at the assistant, associate, or full professor level depending upon qualifications and experience.
The Department is seeking someone who can teach health service management courses. Ideally, the Department is looking for a person having demonstrated knowledge of and ability to teach in one or more of the following areas:
• Healthcare Economics & Financial Management
• Legal & Ethical Issues
HSO Informatics

The ideal candidate will also have a strong background in healthcare management, a strong commitment to excellence, and demonstrated ability in teaching, research, and be active in professional health services organizations and associations.
The Health Services Management (HSM) graduate and undergraduate programs have been offered at the University of La Verne for over thirty-five years. The HSM Program was the first in the Western United States to focus on practicing clinicians, physicians, and those in supervisory/mid management positions seeking to develop their management skills and practice. The Health Services Management Program is dedicated to developing scholarly practitioners throughout all sectors of the health services industry including providers, suppliers, and payers. In addition, it seeks to capitalize on its strong foundation to further enhance its quality and reputation.
The Department places an emphasis on social and environmental justice issues as well as community sustainability and public policy advocacy for healthy communities.

The College of Business and Public Management (SBPM) is positioning itself to pursue ACHME accreditation. The candidate selected will have an opportunity to join a committed and diverse faculty, play a key role in planning the future direction and growth of the College, and collaborate on research projects and outreach to the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area. CBPM seeks candidates whose teaching, research and service have prepared them to contribute to the university’s commitment to diversity and inclusivity and who have an understanding of the barriers faced by underrepresented minorities and first-generation college students.

The College of Business and Public Management is engaged in developing The La Verne Experience, a University-wide initiative that integrates curricular and co-curricular with community engagement. As a holistic educational approach, it focuses on Learning Communities, Theory-to-Practice, Experiential Learning, and Integrated Learning. Candidates will be expected to collaborate in departmental efforts with The La Verne Experience, including interdisciplinary approaches to education and innovative pedagogies.

Specific Duties

The work load is split into 60/30/10 with teaching representing 60% of the work load, research and scholarly activities for 30%, and community service and community engagement for 10%. Faculty is expected to teach six courses per year at the graduate and/or undergraduate level.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have an earned doctorate in healthcare management, health services management, public health, or a related field. Employment is contingent upon successfully passing a background investigation. The hiring salary for this position is dependent upon qualifications and departmental equity.

Preferred Qualifications

Teaching experience and an established research record.
