The successful candidate will be expected to develop and teach undergraduate courses related to Engineering Graphics and Design (Drafting). They will also be expected to create innovative instructional materials and presentations, establish and maintain a record of scholarly and/or creative work, participate in university, college, and department service activities, participate in assessment activities related to accreditation, advise students, and participate in other activities related to department mission and goals.
Graduation from an accredited institution with terminal, earned degree appropriate to discipline. ABD accepted. Knowledge and skill in current instructional theories, strategies, techniques, and discipline content. Evidence of potential for scholarly/creative work consistent with a teaching university. While a PhD in an appropriate discipline is preferred, this position requires a minimum of a Master degree from an accredited college or university in a field related to Engineering Graphics and Design and evidence of significant undergraduate coursework in Engineering Graphics and Design (Drafting). Additional requirements include at least seven years full time industrial experience in Engineering Graphics & Design (Drafting) with an area of expertise in at least one of the following disciplines: Architectural Drafting and Design, Civil Drafting and Design, Electrical Drafting and Design, Mechanical Drafting and Design, or Structural Drafting and Design. Extensive knowledge and use of one of these disciplines current 3D modeling software is also required.
Skill in the following is preferred: 2D CAD – Microstation, BIM Software – Navisworks, QTO, VICO, etc., Rendering/Animation software– 3D Studio Max Design, Photoshop, etc., Course management software – Micrograde, WebCT, Canvas, etc., Other presentation software – Flash, etc.
Knowledge of mathematics including algebra, trigonometry, statics, and strengths of materials with extensive knowledge in one or more of the following is required: Architectural 3D modeling and drafting, Civil 3D modeling and drafting, Electrical 3D modeling and drafting, Mechanical 3D modeling and drafting, Structural steel 3D modeling and detailing
A successful candidate will also possess knowledge of the following: Instructional strategies and techniques, Student management, motivation, and evaluation, Methods of evaluation/assessment of instruction, Curriculum development, Program development and evaluation, Current trends in technical education, Cooperative work experience programs, Student recruitment
Skill in Effective public speaking, presentation, human relations, communication, and technical writing skills are required.
Skill in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, 2D CAD (AutoCAD or equivalent), 3D Modeling (minimum of 1 required) –Tekla Structures, Solidworks, Autodesk Inventor, Revit, or Civil 3D, or another industry equivalent software.
An ability to effectively apply general principles to specific design conditions and to read and follow written procedures and instructions is required.
