Detailed Job Description
The Regional Director of Diversity and Multicultural Services supports the mission of the Miami University Regionals' Diversity Plan by providing direct support to diverse populations, social justice through diversity education and advocacy, and diverse and multicultural programming and resources for all diversity and multicultural matters and efforts at the Miami University Regionals, which includes the Hamilton and Middletown campuses, the Voice of America Learning Center and the Greentree Health Science Academy.
The Regional Director of Diversity and Multicultural Services, reporting to the Regional Senior Associate Dean of Students, manages the function of the Office of Diversity and Multicultural Services, including planning, implementing, and assessing office activities and programs. This person advises the Regional Senior Associate Dean of Students on matters of diversity, inclusion and multiculturalism; develops and oversees programs, services, and initiatives designed to enhance the recruitment and successful retention of students, faculty, and staff from diverse and under-represented population groups; serves as liaison and develops partnerships within local schools, governments, civic and community groups, businesses, and non-profit agencies to promote diversity, inclusion and multiculturalism; develops, implements, assesses and periodically updates the Miami University Regionals Diversity Plan and the 2020 Plan that pertains to diversity, inclusion and multiculturalism; oversees department budgets and assists in identifying and developing funding sources; supervises support staff, including student employees, in the Office of Diversity and Multicultural Services; develops programs including, but not limited to, Racial Legacies & Learning, Cultural Heritage Month events, Women's History Month events, to enhance diversity, inclusion and multiculturalism; serves as chair of the Racial Legacies & Learning Committee; monitors and evaluates programmatic and operational effectiveness and effects changes required for improvement; directs daily activities and leads in the development and implementation of strategic plans, policies, proposals, programs, operating procedures, marketing initiatives, and websites for the Office of Diversity and Multicultural Services; serves on planning and advisory committees including, but not limited to, the Hamilton Campus Senate, the Middletown Campus Assembly, Administrative Council, the Middletown Diversity Council, the Hamilton Diversity Committee and the Council on Diversity and Inclusion; serves as advisor to the following student organizations: FACES (Faces and Cultures of Every Student) on the Middletown campus and MAC (Multicultural Action Committee) on the Hamilton campus; initiates programs, training sessions, and discussions to foster a regional campus culture that values diversity, inclusion and multiculturalism among students, faculty and staff as a defining characteristic of the learning community; contributes to planning and actions that enable search committees to develop diverse pools of candidates for faculty and staff vacancies; develops and administers surveys that contribute to studies of institutional needs and trends in areas related to student, faculty, and staff diversity; works closely with administration and colleagues to represent the Miami University Regionals on matters of diversity, inclusion and multiculturalism; and performs other duties as assigned.
Master's degree; three to five years of experience in diversity programming in higher education; excellent communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills; excellent organization skills; ability and commitment to serving a diverse student, faculty and staff population with cultural competence and sensitivity; ability to complete projects in a timely manner and manage multiple priorities; ability to work collaboratively with others and foster positive relationships; ability to work independent of direct supervision; and ability to work evenings and weekends, as needed. Experience gained during the completion of degree programs will count towards these requirements.
Experience with diverse, first-generation and adult commuter students.
