The Department of Elementary Education and Literacy at Metropolitan State University of Denver invites applications for a full-time, tenure track literacy faculty member at the Assistant Professor level to begin August 2015.
This position requires teaching the equivalent of 12 semester hours of courses (day and/or evening classes) with primary responsibility for teaching courses on adolescent literacy for pre-service teachers in a middle school and secondary teacher licensure program.
Teaching load may include: adolescent literacy foundations, assessment, and instructional decision-making classes; supervision of middle and /or secondary licensure students in field experiences and/or student teaching; supervision of master’s level capstone students; and teaching of other literacy-related courses, including those at the elementary level. The faculty member must advise, work with, and be sensitive to the educational needs of students from a diverse urban population. Additional responsibilities include university and community service as well as scholarly activity.
ABD in a discipline related to educational studies with an emphasis in literacy
An earned doctorate in a discipline related to educational studies by August 2015, with a literacy emphasis. Demonstrated effectiveness in academic instruction and clinical supervision of licensure students in a university secondary teacher preparation program. A minimum of three years full-time teaching of middle school and/or high school. Demonstrated ability and preparation to teach effectively a diverse student population. Documented expertise in the area of teaching adolescent literacy for preservice teachers at the university level. Demonstrated technology expertise in such areas as instructional use in the classroom or hybrid teaching. Evidence of working in urban school settings. Willingness to collaborate in school partnerships.
