Detailed Job Description

The School of Education offers two tenure-track faculty positions (assistant professor) in Teacher Education. Under the direction of the Dean and the Department Chair: teach undergraduate and graduate teacher education courses in Educational Psychology, Instructional Technology/Media for Teachers, and/or Curriculum and Instruction, as well as other courses as deemed appropriate to the department's needs; supervise Master of Education students as they complete a master's thesis or project in Curriculum and Instruction; support the educational research and statistical needs of School of Education faculty and students; and engage with partner school district teachers and administrators to supervise student teachers, interns, and fieldwork students. Produce scholarly work and provide service to the university and community; support collegiality; and uphold professional and ethical standards.
-Teach undergraduate and graduate teacher education courses in Educational Psychology, Instructional Technology/Media for Teachers, and/or Curriculum and Instruction as well as other courses that meet program needs and are consistent with preparation and degree specialty
-Serve as chair for Master of Education students overseeing their work as they complete a master's thesis or project in Curriculum and Instruction; support M.Ed. students data analysis and scholarly writing efforts; and provide constructive, timely feedback
-Support the educational research and statistical needs of School of Education faculty and students
-Produce and publish scholarly work
-Plan, prepare, and follow an approved course of study with measurable objectives and student outcomes for each course taught
-Prepare all instructional materials (including, but not limited to, course syllabi, exams, readings, instructions, visual aids) in electronic and paper formats
-Maintain and submit accurate and current records concerning student accountability, attendance, and performance
-Effectively and accurately participate in the School of Education accreditation process
-Engage with partner school district teachers and administrators when supervising student teachers, field work students, and interns
-Maintain currency and improve professionally in the content and pedagogy of courses taught
-Provide service to the University and community
-Attend assigned meetings, maintain office hours, and uphold a student centered approach to education
-Develop positive relationships with colleagues and public school educators and administrators
-Support collegiality
-Uphold professional and ethical standards
-Perform all other assigned duties
 

Minimum Qualifications

Required:
-Graduation from a regionally accredited institution with an earned doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction or closely related field (or making significant progress toward a doctoral degree)
-Knowledge of content and skills required to teach courses in Educational Psychology, and Instructional Technology/Media for teachers, and/or Curriculum and Instruction to prospective teachers
Highly Preferred:
-Current professional teaching license
-Two years of successful college/university level teaching experience in a teacher education program preferably teaching courses in Educational Psychology, Instructional Technology/Media for teachers, and/or Curriculum and Instruction
-Successful college/university level experience in the teaching and use of research methodology and design, and/or
-Knowledge of and experience in statistical applications to educational research.
 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

-Knowledge of content and skills required to teach courses in Educational Psychology, and Instructional Technology/Media, and/or Curriculum and Instruction to pre-service teachers in the teacher education program (School of Education)
-Knowledge and skill in the content, use, and application of research methodology and design and the use of statistics in educational research
-Knowledge of and ability to produce scholarly writing in the field of teacher education
-Knowledge of current teaching and supervision skills related to pre-service teacher education
-Knowledge of and willingness to uphold professional and ethical teaching standards
-Skill in managing a productive teaching/learning environment
-Skill in mentoring graduate students to complete master's program thesis
-Ability to teach effectively in a serious, student centered environment
-Ability to communicate and relate positively with colleagues, students, and K-12 personnel
-Ability to produce scholarly work
-Ability to serve on school and university committees
-Ability to uphold a collegial teaching and working environment
