Detailed Job Description

The Library and Department of History and Political Science at the University of La Verne invite applications for a joint faculty, non-tenure track, 12-month appointment in University Archives and Special Collections and teaching in public history. Responsibilities for the Library include organization, processing, management, preservation, digitization and building of a high quality archives and special collections and developing services which will enhance the impact of archives and collections on our students, faculty, scholars and researchers. Responsibilities in the Department of History and Political Science include establishing and overseeing a program in public history and teaching three undergraduate courses per academic year.

Specific Duties

Library Duties
o Provide reference and consultation services to students, faculty, and visiting scholars to the University Archives and Special Collections during scheduled hours or by appointment

o Conduct library instruction for classes by interpreting and helping students to appreciate unique and rare resources.

o Oversee and manage the University’s digital library (ContentDM)

o Develop assessment procedures for measuring effectiveness of services

o Work closely with the University Librarian to manage donor stewardship, grant and fundraising initiatives and other outreach and marketing efforts.

o Work with students, faculty, and community partners in the creation of oral and public history physical and virtual exhibits.

o Manage internship or practicum opportunities for graduate library science students

o Engage in library and university governance

Department of History and Political Science Duties
o Establish and oversee a program in Public History

o Design a curriculum in Public History

o Teach three courses a year in Public History

o Develop research/capstone project, internship, and practicum opportunities for undergraduate public history students

o Maintain a research agenda in History and/or Public History

o Keep up with developments in the field of Public History

o Advise students interested in a career in Public History

o Attend department meetings and participate in department governance

Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D in History or Public History and Master’s degree from an American Library Association-accredited program.
