UVU PREP Logic with Application to Math teacher will manage instructional time to teach Logic with Application to Math curriculum for three 50 minute class sections Monday-Thursday to groups of 25 students aged 12-13 for seven weeks. Curriculum will be provided but will need to be tailored to student needs. A Teaching Assistant will be assigned to each teacher to help with classroom instruction, behavior management, grading assignments, etc. UVU PREP Logic w/ Application to Math teacher will coordinate hands-on problem-based labs with the Teaching Assistant assigned to support their students learning.
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree in a field related to the Summary of Duties. Certain programs may require professional an educator license or extensive specialized industry experience, see preferred qualifications for additional requirements.
Graduation from an accredited institution with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physical Science, Physics, or other related fields and 3 years of experience teaching or working in a related field as established by the department.
Knowledge of the application of logical statements, compound statements (negation, conjunction, disjunction, conditional, and biconditional), logical equivalents, valid and invalid arguments, truth tables, rules of interference, paradoxes, elementary set theory (sets, subsets, union, intersection and complements, and properties of operations), Boolean Algebra (definition, examples, and properties), and switching networks (definition, examples, and switching statements).
Knowledge of student motivation techniques.
Skill in leading classroom discussions/activities.
Skill in effective verbal and written communication.
Ability to teach students an understanding and how to utilize universal and existential quantifiers.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of student records.
Ability to assess student work according to general instructional standards
Ability to supervise three classes of 25 middle school students.
