Detailed Job Description

Educate in a variety of learning environments and activities that provide opportunities for students to develop to their fullest potential and achieve learning objectives. Participate collaboratively and professionally with other faculty and staff to promote the general well-being of the department, School of the Arts, and the university, and collective individual interest of its staff and student body. Support and seek always to fulfill the guiding concepts for the university embodied in the Philosophy, Mission, Values and Vision adopted by UVU.
Essential Functions, Major Duties, and/or Accountabilities:
-Design and teach assigned courses in all levels of Contemporary Modern Dance Technique and Theory with an emphasis on partnering, dynamic movement and teamwork.
-Design and teaches assigned courses in all levels of Composition, Choreography, and Improvisation.
-Choreograph, direct, and mentor students in Modern Dance performing groups; teaches courses in Orientation, Dance as an Art Form, and Senior Capstone I/II. Has expertise in at least two of the following areas: Laban Studies, Conditioning, and Dance Technology.
-Prepare instructional materials such as; course outlines, syllabi, exams, audio/visual aids, and other instructional materials as necessary.
-Instruct, manage, and supervise individual and groups in classrooms and laboratories by the following methods; maintain engaged classroom conditions; Demonstration, Discussion, Visual aids, Audio aids, Conferences, and Field trips.
-Evaluate instruction and learning by means of written, oral, practical, and performance tests; maintains a student-oriented, engaged approach to education.
-Assist in recruitment, advisement, placement, and follow-up of students.
-Maintain and submit accurate and current reports and records involving student accountability, attendance, performance, and follow-up. -
-Establish and maintain office hours and advises students during this time and at other times as needed.
-Assist Department of Dance academic advisor, department chairperson, faculty, and department staff in maintaining an effective program; attend Department of Dance meetings and Modern Dance Program meetings as required. Improves professionally and maintains currency in the courses taught; keeps abreast of new development trends and techniques through participation in workshop seminars, actual work experience, and exchange programs with business and industry to maintain skills, state of the art, and knowledge.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master of Fine Arts degree in Dance and three years full-time university teaching experience. Preferred a minimum of 5 years professional performing experience, 2 years' experience as an artistic director or assistant artistic director at a university and/or professional company and certification in Pilates.

-Advanced knowledge of content area.
-Knowledge of Aesthetic Perspectives themes to enable students to identify and describe the emotional, intellectual, psychological, and/or kinesthetic effects of their interactions with various forms of creative expression.
-Skill in effective instructional strategies and techniques.
-Ability to manage, motivate, engage, and evaluate students and instruction.
-Effective interpersonal, problem solving and decision making skills.
-Ability to communicate effectively.
