Detailed Job Description

Provide instruction in clinical, lab, and didactic dental hygiene courses on the associates and/or bachelor level. Participate in faculty meetings, as well as department, school, and university wide committees. Be familiar and assist with curriculum and course design. Excellence in teaching while developing scholarship/creative activities and service.
Essential Functions, Major Duties, and/or Accountabilities:
-Instruct, manage, and supervise individuals and groups in dental hygiene theory and clinical courses in classrooms, labs, and clinic through a variety of teaching and learning strategies.
-Prepare instructional material, i.e., course outlines, objectives, lesson plans, syllabi, exams, mockups, visual aids, and instruction sheets.
-Participates in curriculum development, evaluation, and revision; evaluate instruction and learning by means of oral, practical, and performance tests; maintain and submit accurate and current reports and records involving student accountability, attendance, performance and follow up.
-Maintain a desirable environment in the classroom/clinical conditions and adhere to OSHA standards for infection control.
-Establish and maintain office hours and advise students during these times and at other times as needed.
-Participate in planning, operating, and assessing of program facilities.
-Assist in evaluating and revising of department admission criteria and promotion, student promotion and retention and other departmental policies and procedures.
-Assist in recruitment, advisement, and placement as well as follow up of students.
-Coordinate cooperative work experience programs and students as assigned.
-Assist with the scheduling of clinical and classroom scheduling as needed.
-Perform peer evaluation of department faculty.
-Serve on department, college and University committees and attend faculty in-service and development programs /meetings as needed/assigned.
-Improve professionally and maintain currency in the field by reading and utilizing material in journals and professional publications, surveying and researching dental health care facilities, obtaining and maintaining licensure as required.
-Attend professional meetings, conventions and courses, keeping abreast of new trends, developments, and techniques through participation in workshops, seminars, work experience, industry, continuing education, meetings and journals.
-Perform all duties under the umbrella of the standard of care, accreditation standards, sound pedagogy principles and other miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from a regionally accredited institution's with one of the following:
Minimum Qualification:
-US licensed Dental Hygienist
-Bachelor's degree in Dental Hygiene or related field and currently enrolled in a Dental Hygiene or related master's degree program OR complete Dental Hygiene or related master's degree within 3 years from hire date;
-Ability to obtain a Utah Dental Hygienist license and anesthesia certification by the time of hire (if not already possessed);
-2 years clinical practice required;
-Teaching experience in higher education preferred.
Minimum Qualification:
-US licensed Dentist
-Clinical practice experience of at 2 years required;
-Ability to receive Utah Dental license before start of academic year;
-Teaching experience in higher education preferred.

-Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
-Ability to examine and design effective and efficient operations and procedures.
-Ability to formulate policy and develop and implement new strategies and procedures consistent with the goals and objectives of chemical safety.
-Employee development and performance management skills.
-Ability to develop and maintain record-keeping systems and procedures.
-Knowledge of chemical, hazardous waste, industrial hygiene, and/or environmental health standards.
-Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.
