Detailed Job Description

Under the direction of the Dean, the Associate Dean provides service to the college and community, produces scholarly work, and upholds professional and ethical standards.
Essential Functions, Major Duties, and/or Accountabilities:
-Serve as an integral member of the Dean's leadership team as chief academic officer for University College.
-Promote and advocate for the interdisciplinary nature of the College and its broad range of students.
-Promote and advocate for faculty issues within the College.
-Oversee daily operations of the College.
-Oversee and assist department chairs and program directors with academic advisement, faculty workload reporting, enrollment management, planning and development of new courses and programs, alternative delivery modes, extended education, and summer school offerings for courses and services.
-Oversee faculty and staff hiring, development, rank, tenure, and promotion processes in coordination with department chairs and Dean, including training of chairs of search and RTP committees.
-Serve as resource on policy issues: provide information, interpretation, and assistance in developing and implementing internal policies and procedures.
-Provide liaison to Vice President of Academic Affairs office regarding curriculum issues.
-Oversee student academic issues: appeals, exceptions to policy, misconduct, etc.
-Oversee academic support systems within the College, including Learning Strategist/Learning Lab, Math Lab, Academic Tutoring, and Writing Center. Direct College effectiveness assessment and evaluation and related reporting processes.
-Provide support, counsel, and assistance to the Dean on administrative matters, including input on strategic directions for the College, development of planning, budget, and accountability requests and reports, and disciplinary issues.
-Represent the dean at various functions within the institution and in the community as assigned and act on behalf of the Dean in the Dean's absence.
-Serve on university councils, committees, work groups, and other bodies as assigned, including those related to student success and retention, and as liaison for higher and public education bodies

Minimum Qualifications

Preferred earned terminal degree from an accredited institution, tenured faculty member at the rank of full Professor or Associate Professor, evidence of progressive administrative experience, and a record of progressive and continued scholarship.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

-Knowledge of teaching and administration in interdisciplinary academic programs, general education, developmental education.
-Knowledge of higher education administrative processes, including but not limited to program assessment, tenure, rank, post-tenure, faculty evaluation, workload and faculty advocacy.
-Knowledge of principles, methods, and techniques of administration, supervision, personnel practices, and office procedures.
-Knowledge of objectives of educational organizations, particularly those dedicated to student success.
-Ability to research, analyze data, write, and prepare papers and reports.
-Ability to communicate effectively.
-Human relations, decision making and interpersonal relationship skills.
-Ability to develop, implement, interpret, and evaluate policies, procedures, and processes.
-Ability to provide vision and adapt to change.
