Saint Leo University is one of the largest and most innovative Catholic universities in the United States. A leading provider of higher education to the military and a leader in online higher education, Saint Leo enrolls more than 16,000 students at the traditional University Campus (main campus), through the Center for Online Learning and at 20 regional centers in seven states.

The Department of Sport Business, International Tourism and Hospitality Management is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time, tenure track faculty position to teach Hospitality and Tourism courses at our main campus in Saint Leo, Florida located less than 30 minutes northeast of Tampa and 60 minutes southwest of Orlando.

This is a nine (9) month, full-time faculty appointment at the Instructor/Assistant/ Associate rank, with possible additional summer internship supervision opportunities available.

Review of candidate materials begins immediately for anticipated start date of August 2015. To apply, submit letter of introduction documenting successful teaching experience; curriculum vitae; three letters of recommendation (all should be professional references and at least one from a recent superior); values statement (500 words or less) and teaching philosophy (500 words or less), which highlights how your teaching and administrative philosophy and practices fit the Mission and Values of Saint Leo University; and official transcripts (including WES evaluation if from an international university).

An exceptional candidate possessing a doctorate degree with experience may be considered at the Associate level.

A candidate possessing a master’s degree with 18 graduate study hours in the discipline and demonstrated teaching with appropriate years of experience in higher education may be considered at the Instructor level.

Basic Function:

The faculty member will be required to:

  • Teach 8 classes per year;
  • Advise students;
  • Engage in curriculum development;
  • Support recruiting efforts;
  • Demonstrate professional development (e.g., scholarly research);
  • Undertake community service in keeping with the school’s Benedictine values;
  • Teach on-ground, undergraduate classes.
  • Assist in locating, securing, and supervising industry internships;
  • Be able to teach traditional and non-traditional age students; and
  • Demonstrate the ability to use discipline-related computer programs.

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

To be considered at the Assistant or Associate Professor level the faculty member must possess a terminal degree in Tourism, Hospitality, or closely related field from a regionally accredited institution with credentials to teach courses per Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) guidelines.

Candidates with a Master’s degree Tourism, Hospitality, or closely related that includes 18 credits at the graduate level in discipline, or are currently working on their doctoral degree (including ABD status) may be considered at the Instructor level.

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates possessing a Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with 18 hours of graduate study and/or credentials to teach hospitality and tourism courses may be considered at the instructor level.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Terminal degree (Ph.D. preferred) in Tourism, Hospitality, or a closely related field;
  • Previous experience in teaching traditional and non-traditional age students;
  • Commitment to teaching, advising, and mentoring students – including experience helping oversee student organizations;
  • At least 5 years of industry experience, candidates with more industry experience will be given preference;
  • Ability to teach a wide-range of International Tourism and Hospitality Management courses
