Coppin State University is seeking applications for the Dean for the School of Education. The Dean serves as the academic leader of the unit and supports the mission of the university in its provision of educational instruction, research, and service to an urban community. The position requires visionary leadership and team building skills to oversee four (4) academic departments: Adult and General Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Special Education and Health and Human Performance. The Dean will be responsible for maintaining and sustaining all accreditations and degree programs currently offered at the bachelors and masters' levels. The Dean will also provide leadership to Coppin's Urban Education Corridor, pre-K through 20 and the off-campus initiative.
An earned doctorate in education.
Licensed or eligible for license in one of the academic areas associated with the School of Education.
5 yrs of successful experience teaching at the higher education level.
5 yrs of demonstrated administrative and leadership experience at the higher education level.
Eligible for tenured appointment (full professorship preferred) at Coppin State University at the time of appointment.
Proven experience with managing and facilitating the NCATE accreditation process (preferred).
Experience providing oversight to grant-funded projects in higher education(preferred).
Demonstrated experiences with bridging public education and higher education.
Record of leading and developing programs for students from urban schools and communities.
Substantial record of scholarship activities as evidenced by a peer-reviewed publication history.
Proven service to the education profession as evidenced by leadership positions with state and national education organizations.
Experience in education-related fundraising and grant-funding; demonstrated successful experiences with recruitment/retention in Teacher Education and other related programs.
Experience in the management and coordination of academic programs.
Experiences associated with academic programs in Human Performance.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
The candidate must have demonstrated effective leadership skills.
