Saint Leo University is one of the largest and most innovative Catholic universities in the United States. A leading provider of higher education to the military and a leader in online higher education, Saint Leo enrolls more than 16,000 students at the traditional University Campus (main campus), through the Center for Online Learning and at 20 regional centers in seven states.

The Department of Sport Business, International Tourism and Hospitality Management is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time, tenure track, faculty position to teach Sport Business courses online and at our main campus in Saint Leo, Florida – located less than 30 minutes northeast of Tampa and 60 minutes southwest of Orlando.

This is a nine (9) month, full-time faculty appointment at the Assistant/ Associate rank, with possible additional summer teaching and/or internship supervision opportunities.

This position is an approved replacement position for the 2015-2016 academic year.

Review of candidate materials begins immediately for anticipated start date of August 2015. To apply, submit letter of introduction documenting successful teaching experience; curriculum vitae; three letters of recommendation (all should be professional references and at least one from a recent superior); values statement (500 words or less) and teaching philosophy (500 words or less), which highlights how your teaching and administrative philosophy and practices fit the Mission and Values of Saint Leo University; and official transcripts (including WES evaluation if from an international university).

An exceptional candidate possessing a doctorate degree with experience may be considered at the Associate level.

Basic Function:

The faculty member will be required to:

  • Teach 8 classes per year;
  • Advise students;
  • Engage in curriculum development;
  • Support recruiting efforts;
  • Demonstrate professional development (e.g., scholarly research);
  • Undertake community service in keeping with the school’s Benedictine values;
  • Teach on-ground undergraduate and online MBA classes;
  • Assist in locating, securing, and supervising industry internships
  • Understand and be able to help oversee the COSMA accreditation process, as well as any national/international ranking programs
  • Be able to teach traditional and non-traditional age students; and
  • Demonstrate the ability to use discipline-related computer programs.

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

The faculty member must possess a terminal degree in Sport Business/Management (or closely related field) from a regionally accredited institution with credentials to teach courses per Commission on Sport Management Accreditation (COSMA) and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications:

Terminal degree (Ph.D. preferred) in Sport Business/Management or closely related filed from a regionally accredited institution with credentials to teach at the undergraduate and graduate level.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in teaching traditional and non-traditional age students;
  • Commitment to teaching, advising, and mentoring students – including experience helping oversee student organizations;
  • Professional experience in the sport industry – candidates with more industry experience will be given preference;
  • Familiarity with Commission on Sport Management Accreditation (COSMA) requirements;
  • Ability to teach a wide-range of Sport Business courses, but preference will be given to those candidates with strong teaching and research credentials in sport marketing, sport finance, and sport sales
