Job Responsibilities

Provides college-wide leadership for Readiness and Learning as it relates to Developmental Education including academic support services, curriculum, and program delivery

Works collaboratively with faculty, appropriate Associate Deans and the Deans for Academic Affairs to insure that the developmental curriculum is designed to promote retention and adequately prepare Developmental students for college-level study

Insures quality and consistency of academic support services including tutoring, assessment and supplemental instruction

Researches and works with the faculty to implement approaches to accelerate student progression through Developmental Education

Recommends and collaborates with faculty and staff in the design and implementation of innovative initiatives

Provides administrative leadership for projects (e.g., Test Prep, Math Redesign, Fast Forward) focusing on improving the performance of Developmental Education students

Markets program and services as related to Readiness and Learning

Leads the development of program strategic plans, priorities, policies and initiatives related to Developmental Education and related support services

Provides college-wide leadership for Developmental Education program evaluation and outcomes assessment

Has college-wide responsibility for budget oversight, planning, allocation, and monitoring for the program

Acts as program advocate and representative internally and externally

In collaboration with the Office of Faculty Development, sponsors staff development seminars, workshops, and guest speakers to enhance faculty expertise in Developmental Education and student success

Supervises Learning Centers and Assessment Services, Testing Coordinators, the Student Support Services staff and department support staff

Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING

Master’s degree in English, Math or an Education related field

Evidence of exercising leadership by collaborating across boundaries to accomplish key initiatives or advance a strategic goal

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES

Evidence of successful teaching and curriculum development in Developmental English, Reading or Math

Thorough knowledge of the particular educational needs of Developmental students in an urban setting

Conversant on the issues and latest trends in higher education as they relate to Developmental Education

Possesses excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

Possesses working knowledge of current and emerging educational technologies with the ability to apply in a variety of situations

Ability to balance broad strategic thinking with attention to detail

Demonstrated ability to obtain college wide support for increasing student learning and student success

Excellent oral and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to work within a team setting

Ability to motivate and inspire others

Possesses strong organizational, time-management skills, and is results-oriented

Works accurately with great attention to detail

Ability to independently set goals and determine best course of action to achieve desired results

Ability to confidentially and discreetly handle subject matters requiring privacy and sensitivity

Preferred Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING

Experience in developing college wide ownership of student success would be highly valued

Experience in an Achieving the Dream school, preferably as a campus leader in the initiative

Progressively responsible administrative experience administering Developmental Education and/or similar programs or projects in an urban community college

Work Schedule

Standard College hours of business 8:30am – 5:00pm, Monday through Friday, occasional evenings and weekends as needed
