San Juan College seeks a dynamic, high-energy professional to serve as Student Activities Specialist. This position reports to the Director of Student Activities and is responsible for engaging students in a comprehensive student activities program.
Will assist in enhancing/enriching the co-curricular life of students by establishing relationships with students and facilitating programs in collaboration with students, faculty, administrators and staff; assist in the development, maintenance and coordination of activities and events, including the following: Student Rush, Latino Heritage Week, National Coming Out Day, Luminaries, Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration & Black Heritage Week, and Springapoolza Week. Provide leadership to various branches of student government, campus clubs, student ambassadors and student events staff. Develop, plan implement and provide assistance for the Safe Zone program, Annual Student Leadership retreat, Student Ambassador Program, Student Clubs & Organizations and Student Government. Meet with individual students and student organizations for problem solving, advising, mediating, referrals and program development. Perform other duties as assigned and related by the Student Activities Director.
Bachelor’s degree and one year of related experience working with students. Successful candidate must have the ability to deal effectively with diverse populations including the public, students, faculty, staff and external agencies; willingness to work on a flexible basis when activities fall outside of normal working hours; Experience creating and facilitating training for students and strong organizational, interpersonal and writing skills. General enthusiasm, positive attitude, a self-starter and team player with the ability to instill the same in others. Proficiency in computers including Microsoft Office. Position will be required to work some nights and weekends. Preferred qualifications: Master’s degree in student affairs/higher education administration, working knowledge of campus programming boards and student organization advising, experience in advising and leadership development for students and/or student organizations, experience with supervising student employees, experience with large volume (1-5000 attendees) event planning, web page maintenance, and social media technology.
Physical Requirements: Varied sitting, standing, bending, walking. Ability to lift up to 25lbs related equipment/office supplies. All candidates are subject to a Criminal Background Investigation prior to any offer of employment.
