Assistant Dean, Human Services and Emergency Response Pathways

Division of Health Professions and Human Services

Professional Non-Unit position, 12-month a year position


Provides strategic leadership and administrative oversight for the academic departments within Human Service and Emergency Response Pathways (Human Services, Drug and Alcohol Counseling, Developmental Disabilities, Criminal Justice, Fire Science and Emergency Medical Technician). This position reports to the Dean of Health and Human Services.


  1. Supervise curriculum, program development and program review within the human service and emergency response pathways.
  2. Develop and modify academic programs’ schedule within portfolio including day, evening, weekend, and online credit courses (master schedules) throughout the calendar year.
  3. Oversees activities and requirements associated with specialized external program accreditation pertinent to the programs of study within portfolio. 
  4. Adheres to collective bargaining agreements for full-time and part-time Faculty, Professional Staff, and Classified employees, including workload assignment; evaluation; recommendations for hiring, and other personnel matters consistent with the contract.
  5. Promote relationships with related community agencies, businesses, and individuals;
  6. Implement College policies and procedures pertinent to the functioning of the academic departments within portfolio;
  7. Encourage and support professional development activities for faculty and staff.
  8. Resolve student inquiries, concerns, and problems; researches pertinent facts and circumstances; applies relevant policies, procedures, and practices to find appropriate resolution.
  9. Manage and approve departmental budget and expenditures within portfolio.
  10. Manage the implementation of initiatives, projects, grant proposals within their program pathways and portfolios aligned to the Master Academic Plan, Strategic Plan and Vision Project activities.
  11. Promote academic/divisional relationships with related community and national agencies, schools, businesses, colleges, and individuals, including NSCC advisory committees, employers, high schools, transfer colleges/universities
  12. Foster diversity and collegiality within the Division and College, supports a learner-centered environment.
  13. Develop and foster technical advisory boards within portfolio pathways.
  14. Work with employers to develop clinical and internship sites for student placement, assures adherence to CORI and fingerprinting requirements, and oversees the development of contract placements within their portfolio.
  15. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Dean of Health and Human Services.

REPORTS TO: Dean of Health and Human Services

SALARY: Anticipated salary is $75,000- $85,000 per year plus fringe benefits. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
