Detailed Job Description

Under the direction of the Director of Benefits and Compensation, manages the day-to-day administration of the comprehensive range of employee health, welfare and retirement programs/plans that complement the university’s employment goals and objectives. Ensures that plans and programs comply with university policies and pertinent federal and state laws, statutes and mandates. Communicates benefit plan features to various and diverse employee eligibility groups. Manages plan updates/changes in the HRIS and other automated systems. Manages and implements employee benefit programs to compliment the university’s employment goals and objectives.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree plus three to five years of related experience, including two years of supervisory experience OR an equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the Summary of Duties totaling at least seven years.

Preferred Qualifications

PHR or CBP certification preferred.


Knowledge of laws, regulations, methods, and techniques in area of benefits and risk management.
Working knowledge of FMLA, Workers Compensation, COBRA, and the Affordable Care Act.


Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
Skill in billing and reconciliation practices.


Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
Ability to evaluate, develop, and manage employee performance.
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information.
Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
Ability to plan and evaluate programs.
Ability to gather and analyze statistical data and generate reports.
Ability to analyze problems and develop creative solutions to complex employee benefits issues.

Pay Range

$41,804 to $55,739
