Detailed Job Description

The Instructor of Reading will report directly to the Dean of the School of Humanities and will provide 15 credit hours of instruction per semester with a primary teaching load in reading courses.

Duties & Responsibilities

Course load will potentially include Reading Fundamentals, Critical Reading, and Academic Reading & Study. Teaching load may include other related assignments. Responsibilities include advisement, service on various college and department committees, maintenance of office hours, and other duties as assigned by the Dean. Instruction times may vary possibly including evening hours.

Classroom locations may vary to include: SJC Main Campus, SJC East Campus and SJC West Campus

Qualifications

A Master of Arts Degree or higher in Reading or a related field, plus two years of related full-time teaching experience is required. Post-secondary or adult education teaching experience is preferred. Teaching experience at a community college, with demonstrated interest in creating student-centered, interactive courses is desired. The successful candidate will be dynamic with a high energy level and have a strong commitment to the community college and learning college philosophies. The candidate should also value diversity and have a strong multicultural perspective with adult and minority students.

Starting Salary

Commensurate with highest level of education and actual years of teaching experience.
