Detailed Job Description

The position reports directly to the Dean, School of Sciences and will teach 15 credit hours per semester of freshman and sophomore level biology classes.

Duties & Responsibilities

Classes taught can include the following: Introduction to Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, Pathophysiology, Microbiology, and other general biology courses. Responsibilities will also include organizing and maintaining laboratories in biology; developing and revising instructional materials as appropriate; keeping student records; advising students; assisting in recommending and orienting part-time faculty; and working with college councils and committees as assigned. The instructor will maintain a minimum of five office hours per week. Day and evening classes can be expected. Instruction times may vary possibly including evening hours.
Classroom locations may vary to include: SJC Main Campus, SJC East Campus and SJC West Campus.

Qualifications

A Master’s Degree in Biology with an emphasis in human anatomy and physiology, Pathophysiology or closely related area is required. Two (2) years of teaching and/or related educational experience at a post-secondary level is required. Experience with online and distance education instruction and interactive instructional methods is highly desired. Ability to teach classes in several of the areas specified is preferred. The successful candidate will value diversity and have a multicultural perspective with adult/minority students; and have a high energy level along with a strong commitment to the community college philosophy.

Starting Salary

Commensurate with highest level education and actual years teaching experience.
