Detailed Job Description

Under the direction of the Department Chair and Modern Dance Program Coordinator, a successful candidate will educate in a variety of learning environments and activities that provide opportunities for students to develop their fullest potential and achieve their learning objectives in the Modern Dance Program.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with terminal, earned degree appropriate to discipline. ABD accepted. Knowledge and skill in current instructional theories, strategies, techniques, and discipline content. Evidence of potential for scholarly/creative work consistent with a teaching university. See preferred qualifications for discipline or program-specific minimum qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with an MFA degree in Dance or a related field plus two years of related experience OR any combination of equivalent related education and experience totaling eight years.


Knowledge of subject matter and course content, as well as recruitment, advisement and placement.


Skill in mentoring and advising students
Skill in assessing student talents
Skill in directing student performance groups and mentoring student choreography
Grant writing and administrative skill highly desirable


Ability to design and teach courses in all levels of Modern Technique and Theory, as well as general arts education courses.
Ability to design curriculum and teach in at least two of the following areas: Composition/Improvisation, Dance conditioning, Laban Movement Analysis/Bartenieff Fundamentals, Dance Pedagogy, World Dance.
