This also includes programmatic responsibilities such as supporting the University's Title IX and Title VII policies (such as the non-discrimination policy and including the sexual misconduct policy) through prompt, effective and remedial investigative responses to complaints of harassment and discrimination brought by students, faculty, staff and third parties and set forth in various university policies and guidelines.
Working with two other experienced internal investigators for Title VII and Title IX matters and reporting to the Director of the OEO, the OEO Investigator will work within a supportive team and collaborate with other members of the Tufts community to investigate and resolve OEO complaints as set forth in various university policies and federal and state regulations. For example, the OEO Investigator plays an integral role in helping to realize the University's commitment to and aspirations for a student population free of sex and gender discrimination by working with multiple stakeholders (i.e. Health Services, Deans of Students and other offices) on reports of sexual misconduct and sexual assault allegations and concerns.
S/he also works closely with the University's Legal Counsel and Human Resource Business Partners and other stakeholders to help resolve allegations of harassment and/or discrimination based on all MA 151B and EEOC categories relative to employees. Other programmatic responsibilities include supporting the production of OEO polices and procedures, conducting training for employees and students and representing fairness and neutrality at all times. The OEO Investigator acts as the fact finder in these processes and works with multiple stakeholders, including staff, faculty and students to achieve desired resolutions.
Conducts Title VII and Title IX investigations of allegations of discrimination for students, faculty and staff; writes investigation reports, performs case management and data management for each case, follows up with necessary departments on cases, works with involved parties toward successful complaint resolution of all Title VII and Title IX investigations that are assigned.
Develops Title VII and Title IX policy/procedures and implements and disseminates them University-wide; works with the Director, University Counsel, Title IX liaisons and other departments to forward and educate constituents on Title IX and Title VII policy and procedures; educates self and others on state Title VII employment law climate and national Title IX policies and protocols.
includes covering for other investigators/team members in the office or with respect to other types of OEO investigations where there may be conflicts of interest; attends University meetings as Director's designee as assigned.
Organizes and conducts Title IX and Title VII trainings University-wide; works with the Director to deliver Title VII and Title IX trainings and/or informational meetings about Title VII and Title IX on all Tufts' campuses.
•Master's plus 7 years of investigative experience, including writing fact finding reports in the area of MA 151B and Title IX matters is required;
•Bachelor's degree and 10 years of investigative experience may be substituted for the Master's requirement
•completion of the MCAD Investigation module is preferred, or willingness to attend in the first year
•Case management tools, reporting tools, databases, Microsoft Office Suite
•Ability to travel to and between Tufts campuses;
•ability to sit and write for extended time periods;
•ability to attend and collaborate with various stakeholders in meetings University-wide;
•excellent presentation skills and ability to speak in front of a class effectively;
•exceptional listening and communication skills;
•demonstrated report writing ability; strong inductive and deductive reasoning approach with a sound ability to analyze and convey analysis of evidence;
•flexibility in approach with different types/levels of customers;
•demonstrated inter-cultural fluency;
•attention to detail from intake to closure, case management and follow up
•Master's degree in related field required; at least 7 years conducting HR-related and/or EEO related investigations and Title IX investigations;
•Previous University experience preferred in a highly collaborative environment
•Strong presentation skills and experience developing and delivering classroom training
•Familiar with case management software, databases and reporting tools
•Demonstrated understanding of diversity dynamics, intersectionality and how identities and cultures can impact protected category identities.
Special Work Schedule Requirements:
The nature of investigations will require the Investigator to complete inquiries in a timely way, based on the acuity of the alleged incident(s); therefore, overtime, evening and weekend work may be required as well as other office and team coverage during normal business hours.
