Detailed Job Description

Under the direction of the Dean and the chair of the Department of Elementary, teach undergraduate teacher education courses as deemed appropriate to education and experience; engage with partner school district teachers and administrators to supervise student teachers, interns, and fieldwork students. Provide service to the School, University and community, support collegiality, and uphold professional and ethical standards.
Essential Functions, Major Duties, and/or Accountabilities:
-Teach undergraduate teacher education courses.
-Plan, prepare, and follow an approved course of study that includes measurable objectives for each course taught.
-Prepare instructional materials (syllabi, mock-ups, visual aids, and instruction sheets) in electronic and paper formats as necessary; submit requisitions for books, supplies and equipment necessary for the coursework.
-Instruct, manage and supervise individuals and groups in classroom by the following methods: demonstration, discussion, visual aids, etc.
-Maintain and submit accurate and current reports and records involving student accountability, attendance, performance and follow-up.
-Effectively and accurately participate in the School of Education accreditation process.
-Engage and develop a positive relationships with partner school district teachers and administrators when supervising student teachers, field work students and interns.
-Maintain currency and improve professionally in the content and pedagogy of courses taught.
-Maintain a student centered approach to education and uphold professional and ethical standards.
-Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with a master's degree in a recognized teacher education field and 2 years successful K-12 teaching experience (highly preferred: professional teaching license and 2 years of successful college/university level teaching experience in a teacher education program).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

-Knowledge of content and skills required to teach courses to pre-service teachers (preference given to Curriculum and Instruction and/or Educational Psychology)
-Knowledge of current teaching and supervision skills related to pre-service teacher education
-Knowledge of and willingness to uphold professional and ethical teaching standards
-Skill in managing a productive teaching/learning environment
-Ability to teach effectively in a serious, student centered environment
-Ability to communicate and relate positively with colleagues, students, and K-12 personnel
-Ability to serve on school and university committees
-Ability to uphold a collegial teaching and working environment
