The purpose of the Life University Course Designer is to assist the Life University Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) Director with the implementation of active learning strategies (ALS), initially in targeted courses and then, throughout the curricula. The Course Designer will provide support for faculty members transitioning to, and/or honing their skills in, the application of active learning strategies. The Course Designer will provide faculty with recommendations of the most effective delivery methods for the type of course material being presented and provide demonstrations of and recommendations for restructuring of course material and syllabi to best utilize those methods. The Course Designer will serve as the peer reviewer of active learning application, particularly for faculty members who are at the “entry level” in ALS application. The Course Designer will also aid in the construction of online courses, in terms of both appropriate pedagogy and technology. The Course Designer will be an integral part of faculty development for ALS and online instruction
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Assist with training college personnel in developing Active Learning modules and other course management initiatives in accordance with the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP)
Serve as lead coordinator/facilitator of Faculty Learning communities in support of the QEP
Serve as peer review/support person for assisting faculty with development of active learning methods
Conduct seminars and other training activities associated with but not limited to on-line courses
Assist faculty in the identification and development of course delivery options best suited to type of material being delivered
Develop, in coordination with various departments, information, to include survey data, applicable to accreditation requirements and course management databases.
Employ current course technology i.e. internet, telecourse methodologies and interactive technology as required.
Teach courses, as needed, in field of expertise.
Masters Degree in Instructional Design or related field; terminal degree preferred.
At least (3) three years of related experience.
(5) Five plus years experience with assisting faculty members transitioning from longterm use of traditional instructional approaches.
Familiarity with clinical or healthcare educational settings/needs.
Experience with curriculum review and redesign.
Familiarity with and enthusiasm for philosophically directed education.
