SMSU, one of seven universities in the Minnesota System, provides a diverse curriculum of liberal arts and selected professional programs. The University is located in the town of Marshall (pop. 13,000), in rural southwest Minnesota, 155 miles from Minneapolis/St. Paul and 90 miles from Sioux Falls, SD.
Responsibilities: Conduct the Concert Choir, Men’s Glee Club, and Bella Voce (women’s choir) and oversee the vocal music program. Additional responsibilities may include the teaching of voice lessons, vocal music education courses, elementary music teacher training, conducting, vocal arranging, and an occasional Liberal Arts Core course in music. Other teaching, administrative, and committee duties will be assigned as appropriate to the candidate’s background, experience, and training. Duties also include student advising, contribution to student growth and development, evaluating student performance, scholarly activity, and service to the University community.
A Doctorate preferred, ABD considered.
The successful candidate will have experience as a choral conductor and instructor at the collegiate level.
They will demonstrate exceptional skills in vocal pedagogy and choral conducting and have experience in a variety of vocal genres.
They will have sufficient proficiency on the piano to accompany private voice students and/or choirs.
Furthermore the candidate must demonstrate the ability to work closely with a small music faculty; recruit and retain students; and get involved in the community on a professional level.
Demonstrated abilities/competence in instructional technology, including online instruction and commitment to interdisciplinary education is preferred.
