Detailed Job Description

Southern Oregon University

Assistant/Associate Professor of Strategic Management/Management

The School of Business at SOU seeks applicants for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor for Fall 2012.  In addition to undergraduate programs in Business, the School offers MBA and Master in Management (MM) degrees. Responsibilities of the position will include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Management, Organizational and related areas; conducting research in the field, student advising, and university service.  School of Business faculty help promote programs; assist in the recruitment, advising and retention of students; help develop or refine program curricula; participate in assessment efforts for accreditation; and foster close relations with regional communities. Courses are offered at SOU's main campus in Ashland, our campus in Medford and at partner campuses in regional and international locations during weekdays, evenings, and weekends in face-to-face, hybrid and online formats.

Minimum Qualifications: An earned doctorate (Ph.D. or DBA) in Management, Organizational or related fields from a regionally accredited university; experience currently teaching college, familiarity with electronic course management systems (such as Moodle); excellent verbal and written communication skills; and ability to work collegially with faculty from other disciplines. Persons who are currently enrolled in a doctorate program and will complete the program by summer 2017 are invited to apply.

Other Considerations: The candidate will need a well-rounded academic background and professional experience. The candidate will be expected to teach a broad range of courses depending on their area of focus and experience. In most situations the candidate would be required to teach: 1) the capstone business planning course where practical use of financial statements is required, 2) organizational behavior, 3) business policy and strategy, a prerequisite to our business planning capstone, 4) graduate courses in the candidate's area of focus and 5) other undergraduate courses (such as introductory management courses, courses in our sustainability program, human resource related courses, ethics, etc.). Motivation and skills to teach online are required. Additionally, the successful candidate will model a commitment to ongoing growth and development.

Why would the School of Business at Southern Oregon University be especially attractive to someone with the talents listed above?

There are two reasons: the quality of our relationships and the place we live. As described by the person this position will replace, an individual with a variety of experiences, "SOU is the best place I have worked." We have a talented, experienced, collaborative and supportive faculty. The same adjectives can be used to describe faculty across the campus. We are a small school so we all have influence.  The student body is working to improve their opportunities in life. We directly influence those students through our advising and teaching all our own courses. We have the opportunity to be creative. We work with a great group of people that genuinely care about students!

We live in an extraordinary place whether talking cultural or outdoor opportunities. The Rogue Valley has large city advantages (excellent medical facilities, airports, stores) with a much more rural feel. From the Shakespeare Festival to the Britt Festival and the numerous other cultural opportunities in the community and at SOU, there is always something to do. Portland and San Francisco are within a half-day drive. The mountains are right here and the beach is less than three hours away. Crater Lake National Park is less than two hours away. Whether you like world class fishing and rafting on the Rogue River, road or mountain biking, camping, hiking, skiing, mountaineering, stunning beauty or pretty much any outdoor pursuit you can think of, it's here.

To apply to this exciting opportunity, please review complete details and submit an online application at Hard-copy applications will not be considered. Southern Oregon University is an equal access AA/EOE committed to achieving a diverse workforce and, as such, is an inclusive campus community.
