The Assistant Vice President of Teaching and Learning works collaboratively with academic leaders, faculty, and staff to create and deliver innovative, high quality online/hybrid and face-to-face courses and programs that promote academic excellence, enhance student learning, increase access, and support degree completion. The Assistant Vice President is responsible for providing support, resources, programming, and training to develop faculty pedagogical skills, including but not limited to technology-enhanced instructional methods, instructional design, and engaged and inclusive learning approaches. The Assistant Vice President reports to the Associate Vice President of Academic Programs.
Graduation from a regionally accredited institution with a doctorate degree and a minimum of three years of recent experience in a related field within higher education in a strategic leadership role, including management of departments and programs OR a master’s degree in a related field and five years of related experience within higher education in a strategic leadership role, including management of departments and programs.
Graduation from a regionally accredited institution with a doctorate degree in an academic discipline, education technology, distance education, adult learning, higher education, or a related field.
Clear record of successful strategic and operational leadership. Seven or more years of progressive responsibility in the design, development, delivery, and marketing of technology-enhanced delivery of higher education programs; related experience in leading and managing faculty development activities; and strategic leadership, management, and planning expertise. Prior experience in institutions similar to UVU (in size, complexity, and mission) is an advantage. Online teaching expertise and an active scholarly record related to the position responsibilities is an asset.
Rank of Associate Professor or Professor with a history of successful advancement through a faculty evaluation or promotion system.
Strong leadership experience and demonstrated effectiveness in working collaboratively with academic administrators and faculty to create credibility and trust, and encourage initiative and innovation in online education and faculty development.
Knowledge of nationally-recognized processes for quality assurance for online education and student learning. Experience with state and national standards and requirements for distance learning.
Excellent listening, inquiry, and follow-up skills.
Outstanding oral presentation and written communication skills across various audiences
Demonstrated ability in the effective pedagogical uses of emerging technologies, and the ability to embed appropriate forms of instructional technology into teaching contexts to support student learning.
Demonstrated capacity to collaborate across organizational units to create programs, maximize resources, and enhance the work of faculty.
ability to inspire and influence others to support a comprehensive mission/vision; clear evidence of the ability to implement and manage change.
Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders (students, faculty, staff, administrators).
Ability to learn about and embrace different viewpoints and perspectives; patience and ability to mediate differences.
Demonstrated ability to implement new processes, procedures, and standards.
Proven ability to creatively and entrepreneurially seize distance learning opportunities.
