Job Responsibilities

Supervises the work of campus operations staff; including work schedules and assignments, selection and hiring, training and development, performance evaluations, coaching and discipline; develops and manages break-work schedules

Develops annual budget for the campus

Verifies annual facilities reporting for the Ohio Board of Regents

Manages priorities and schedules for successful, timely and cost effective completion of work orders

Identifies opportunities for cost savings and productivity improvements

Manages external vendors to ensure compliance with contract teams, conditions and product or service performance

Manages and/or monitors select construction and renovation projects in cooperation with Capital and Construction staff

Advises the Executive Director of Operations and/or Vice President of Facilities, Development and Operations on all critical operating and strategic issues to ensure sustainable campus operations

Establishes, monitors and maintains a system of internal controls that safeguards college assets

Interprets, implements and supports department and College policies and procedures, requests and events

Ensures that campus operations are in compliance with all environmental, health and safety laws, regulations, policies and procedures

Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications


Bachelor’s Degree and/or a minimum of ten years of experience managing facilities renovation/upgrade projects, managing operations in a facilities environment including supervision of hourly and supervisory personnel and implementing facilities activities such as preventive maintenance programs, corrective maintenance and repair, equipment upgrades, operational efficiency improvements, and emergency and safety operations and procedures

Demonstrated executive experience planning, assigning, scheduling, supervising and ensuring the quality of the work of others

Demonstrated experience Forecasting, Planning, Maintaining, and Monitoring a business area’s budget

Demonstrated experience effectively making decisions that have major implications on the management and operations within a department

Demonstrated effectiveness in a role requiring dynamic and abstract problem solving methods in adaptive situations


Demonstrated knowledge of governmental regulations and safety standards applicable to plant operations

Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA standards

Possesses excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

Possesses strong organizational and time-management skills

Works accurately with great attention to detail

Ability to prioritize/handle multiple tasks and work with deadlines in a dynamic environment

Ability to promote collaboration, teamwork, and involve all stakeholders in decision-making processes

Excellent customer service skills and proven ability to develop and sustain productive customer relationships

Ability to effectively respond to requests from multiple levels of the College in various departments

Ability to effectively complete work assignments independently

Possesses comprehensive knowledge of engineering and industrial maintenance theories, concepts and practices with the ability to use in complex, difficult and/or unprecedented situations as it pertains to the departmental focus

Intermediate-level project management skills

Intermediate-level proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel

Basic-level proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint

Ability to confidentially and discreetly handle subject matters requiring privacy and sensitivity

Ability to collaborate, persuade, gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas on significant projects

Ability to collaborate, negotiate and resolve conflicts on major projects

Ability to facilitate top-level collaboration while managing sensitive issues

Ability to develop and maintain relationships with key contacts to enhance work flow and quality

Preferred Qualifications


Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field

Up-to-date Professional Engineer’s License valid in the state of Ohio

Professional certifications in mechanical, electrical, industrial or other engineering related areas

Ten or more years of supervisory experience in a bargaining unit environment

Five or more years of experience in quality systems (e.g. ISO 9000)

Five or more years of experience with a CMMS (computerized maintenance management system) software program

Work Schedule

Standard College work hours are M-F 8:30am-5pm. Hours will vary based on business unit need.

The work is primarily performed in a normal, professional office environment;

Work may also require lifting up to, and over, fifty pounds on a seldom basis

May also be required to occasionally be exposed to the following work conditions:

Outdoors without protection from the weather conditions

Temperatures below thirty-two degrees for more than an hour

Temperatures above one hundred degree for more than an hour

Legitimate noise causing one to have to shout to be heard over the noise level

Oscillating or vibrating movements of extremities or whole body

A variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, or exposure to chemicals

Air or skin exposure to oils or other cutting fluids

Conditions that affect the respiratory system, such as fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, or poor ventilation

Crawl spaces, shafts, man holes, sewage and water line pipes, and other areas that could cause claustrophobia
