The Department of Elementary Education and Literacy at Metropolitan State University invites applications for a full-time tenure track elementary education faculty member at the Assistant Professor level to begin August 2015.
Teach 12 semester hours of day, evening, and/or weekend courses in elementary education including instructional methods in social studies, classroom assessment, differentiated instruction, and classroom management courses for teacher candidates in the elementary Education licensure program. Furthermore, the candidate must have a willingness to collaborate with colleagues and School personnel in supervision of clinical experiences and/or student teachers in the field, participate in partnership schools, and a desire to work with a diverse student body including, but not limited to, working adults and students of color to increase student retention and success. The successful candidate will be expected to advise and mentor undergraduate and/or masters level students.
Scholarly Activities: Engage in Scholarship activities appropriate to the discipline.
Service: Provide service to the Department, School, University and profession.
Diversity: The University is particularly interested in applicants who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for under-represented groups.
ABD in Elementary Education or in a related field.
Doctorate in Elementary Education or in an area of curriculum and/or instruction related to elementary education. Five years of elementary school teaching in grade K through 6 general classroom. Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching undergraduate and/or graduate methods in social studies, classroom assessment, differentiated instruction, or classroom management. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with diverse populations including outreach to and retention of students of color. Willingness to collaborate with K-6 public schools in partnership activities. Demonstrated community engagement experience, e.g., partnerships for community-based research projects, service learning.
