Detailed Job Description
The research assistant assists the director is all facets of office operations. The office provides support for University strategic planning and continuous improvement efforts. Key responsibilities include assisting in academic program reviews, coordinating University-wide student learning outcome assessment projects, and conducting, analyzing and reporting on local and national research studies to support Academic and Student Affairs initiatives.
Provide research and administrative assistance for a number of periodic institutional assessment studies, including: Alumni Surveys associated with periodic Program Reviews, General Alumni Satisfaction Studies (undergraduate and graduate), CIRP Freshmen and Senior Surveys, National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE), Law School Survey of Student Engagement (LSSSE), Noel-Levitz Student Satisfaction Inventory (SSI), and other similar efforts. Assist in the evaluation and selection of commercially developed student assessment instruments.
- Serve as resource in designing and conducting assessment studies to gauge student learning and success at the program, school or institution level including collecting and analyzing cohort data and tracking cohorts.
- Perform outreach at the program/department level to gauge assessment needs and assist academic programs in designing/conducting assessments of student learning.
- Design, administer, and analyze quantitative and qualitative research studies and data systems to meet academic planning needs, institutional performance measures (Institutional Scorecard), and funding initiatives.
- Design, construct and maintain data systems for capturing and reporting assessment and learning information from an e-portfolio environment to the QU community.
- Analyze quantitative and qualitative data and assist in the interpretation of data for internal and external reporting and other activities.
- Submit written reports and/or conduct presentations as requested by the Director for various University stakeholders.
- Other assignments as assigned.
Note: About 25% of the research analyst's time is expected to be devoted to serving the assessment needs of programs (academic and co-curricular), 50%-60% will be devoted to institutional assessment projects and the remainder will be allocated as needed, including creating data systems for assessment.
The research analyst may support one or more of the following College committees:

► Learning Paradigm Steering Committee
► Program Review Working Group(s)
► NEASC Preparation Team
Required Minimum Qualifications
Masters degree is required. Preference will be given to terminal degree candidates in a relevant discipline (psychology, statistics, sociology, testing, educational research, etc.)
- Three to five years of higher education experience in student assessment at the university level; published research in the scholarship of assessment is a definite plus.
- Experience in editing/coding data, data entry, survey processing, analyzing data, and report writing.
- Must be very collegial with good personal interaction skills, detail oriented, organized and a dependable self-starter.
- Ability to create and maintain statistical databases and accurate reports.
- Must have a high level of skill with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and SPSS.
