Mission College is currently seeking a talented & dedicated individual to fill the position of STEM/Transfer Program Coordinator, with the Title III Asian American Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institution (AANAPISI) Programs. Located in the heart of Silicon Valley, our staff and faculty are among the most qualified in the state and our students appreciate the college for its friendly staff and supportive atmosphere.
Under the direction of the Director of Federal Student Services Grants Implementation & Compliance, the Program Coordinator – STEM/Transfer (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math/Transfer) will oversee, plan and organize the development of the program activities in the STEM Learning Center located in the Science Building. These activities include coordination of the STEM Peer Mentor program, conducting workshops, classroom presentations, and coordination of a STEM Career Speaker series. The Coordinator will also recruit staff and faculty to assist with the activities listed above. The STEM/Transfer Program Coordinator will be responsible for developing relationships with local business and industry leaders in the STEM fields and will create databases for mentorship, service learning, and internship opportunities for students interested in the STEM fields. The Coordinator will act as a liaison in establishing a calendar of all STEM related activities and events in the STEM Learning Center and will act as a liaison to other existing STEM programs/services for institutional planning purposes. Activities will also include collecting and maintaining data. The Coordinator will also work as part of the AANAPISI Programs team.

100% of full time, 37.5 hours per week, 12 months per year, with anticipated start date of February 4, 2015. Schedule may change to include some evening or weekend hours, as needed. This position is a member of the West Valley-Mission Classified Employees Association (WVMCEA), Office, Technical & Business Services Employee Unit.
This position is categorically funded. Continued employment is contingent upon grant funding – currently funded through 2016.
Work Location: Mission College, Santa Clara, CA.
Any combination equivalent to:
1. Education – Four years of college with major coursework in a field related to the assignment;
2. Experience – Three years of increasingly responsible student or human services work involving public contact;
3. Demonstrated ability to effectively work with persons of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM major (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math), is preferred.
- Prior experience involving science education, advising, and/or student services in higher education.
- Prior experience developing and implementing strategies to promote educational access and success for students from historically under-served populations, such as Asian American/Pacific Islander, Native American, Latino, and African American students.
- Successful experience in program coordination within an education or non-profit setting with a variety of stakeholders (i.e. faculty, staff, administration, students).
- Successful track record of building relationships with external partners such as local businesses, corporations, community based organizations, etc.

- Conduct strategy meetings for calendar and program development.
- Develop, organize and coordinate activities to meet student needs (including workshops, activities, tours, cultural events, support in applying for financial aid).
- Recruit staff and faculty to run workshops/activities/tours /cultural events.
- Attend program meetings.
- Perform recruitment, retention and tracking activities.
- Develop, organize and coordinate a STEM Peer Mentor Program.
- Develop and coordinate a STEM Career Speaker Series.
- Coordinate a STEM Week on campus to encourage more students to consider a STEM major and careers in STEM fields.
- Develop and conduct retention workshops.
- Serve as chair of the STEM Steering Committee responsible for the direction of STEM initiatives at Mission College.
- Serve on committees and work groups as requested.
- Prepare and maintain database of students participating in program activities.
- Train and provide work direction to student assistants and others as assigned.
- Help organize and support student outreach for the program in the college.
- Refer students to appropriate staff/faculty/program for support.
- Oversee student information boards and activities, sign-up forms and reminder card system.

Salary and Benefits
- Anticipated Hiring Range: $3,976–$4,328 (monthly).
