Detailed Job Description

Under the direction of the Developmental Mathematics Department Chair, the tenure-track faculty member will provide high quality teaching of developmental mathematics courses (Arithmetic through Intermediate Algebra), and be responsible for providing service and scholarship as detailed in the department tenure policy.
-Teach developmental mathematics (Pre- Algebra through Intermediate Algebra) under administrative direction
-Plan, prepare and follow an approved course of study with measurable objectives
-Prepare instructional materials including course syllabi, instructional aids, and tests
-Instruct, manage, and supervise individuals and groups in regular classrooms and/or computerized classrooms through lectures, discussions, conferences, demonstrations, individualized instruction and other appropriate methods.
-Evaluate student learning and utilize accepted assessment strategies in evaluating learning.
-Maintain a student-centered approach to education
-Maintain and submit records of students' accountability and performance.
-Provide an open, discrimination free classroom environment.
-Gather and analyze student outcomes data.
-Attend and contribute in faculty and other meetings.
-Serve on committees as assigned
-Work with colleagues to accomplish common goals.
-Develop mathematics curriculum and teaching strategies as needed.
-Assist in advisement, placement, and follow-up progression of students.
-Make progress towards meeting the service requirements detailed in the department tenure policy
-Attend and present research at conferences.
-Stay current in developmental mathematics education.
-Make progress towards meeting the scholarship requirements detailed in the department tenure policy

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with an earned master's degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or Statistics OR Mathematics related field, plus a minimum of 18 semester hours of graduate level mathematics, plus an earned bachelor's degree in mathematics or statistics.
Preferred: An earned doctorate in Instructional Science, Curriculum and Design, Educational Measurement and Evaluation, or Mathematics Education. Teaching experience in Developmental Mathematics.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

-Ability to effectively teach developmental mathematics using a variety of instructional modes and acknowledged best practices in the discipline.
-Ability to communicate both written and orally in English.
-Ability to use effective, student-centered instructional strategies and techniques which include engaged learning strategies, and computer-aided instruction
-Ability to manage, motivate and evaluate students.
-Effective interpersonal, problem solving and decision-making skills.
-Ability to use computer hardware and software.
-Classroom teaching experience in Developmental Mathematics.
-Ability to use multimedia hardware and software in classroom teaching.
-Experience with data analysis.
-Experience with educational measurement, program evaluation, and student learning outcomes evaluation.
-Experience in creating, implementing, and leading developmental mathematics programs to strengthen student success.
