The Department of Student Leadership and Success Studies invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in our department which focuses on First-year and transition studies and personal and student leadership development to begin July 2015. The successful candidate will join a diverse and dynamic department of faculty who are committed to a student-oriented, engaged learning approach to education. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to teach a variety of courses designed to enhance students’ first-year experience, promote their student development and academic success, and prepare them for leadership and mentoring experiences.
Under the direction of the Department Chair, successful applicants will teach a diverse student population using a variety of instructional modes and acknowledged best practices in the discipline, review and revise curriculum, engage in scholarly activities, and participate in departmental and campus service, including department leadership, faculty in-service and college/institutional committee work.

Graduation from an accredited institution with terminal, earned degree appropriate to discipline. ABD accepted. Knowledge and skill in current instructional theories, strategies, techniques, and discipline content. See preferred qualifications for discipline or program-specific minimum qualifications.
Graduation from an accredited institution with a doctorate degree in a field strongly related to student development, academic success strategies including reading, first year experience, leadership and mentoring, or a closely related field and one year experience.
Knowledge of teaching philosophy based on theoretical framework in education and student leadership.
Knowledge of appropriate assessment of student learning.
Proven skills as an accomplished teacher, with a particular competence in teaching academic literacy related courses, study skills, career exploration, critical thinking, self-awareness, and leadership and mentoring.
Skill in assisting and collaborating with counselors and other department heads across campus in supporting student success.
Ability to develop curriculum and teach designed courses.
Ability to develop effective business and educational partnerships at the campus, local, state and national levels.
Ability to communicate (written and oral) with a wide variety of students, faculty and others.
Ability to supervise others, including students and employees.
