The position exists to teach technical writing and editing courses within the program, advise students, perform scholarly activities and provide service to the university and community.
Courses to be taught may include Introduction to Technical Writing, Technical Editing, Technical Writing for Translation and others. Position will also coordinate all online, campus-based and hybrid sections of Introduction to Technical Writing.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach upper division courses in the Technical Communication program. Teach 24 credits per academic year including evening,s online courses and weekends using multimedia and other technologies. Teaching involves activities that impart knowledge and critical thinking skills to students. It includes preparing for courses assigned, assessing student progress, conducting curricular review, curricular development, and program review, including the use of new technology, as appropriate.
Teaching also includes academic advising and guidance of students from diverse populations. Advising involves activities specifically directed to assist the student in choosing career options, choosing a degree program, successfully completing his or her degree, obtaining employment or graduate school placement, and keeping informed of College policies. Participation in scholarly activity is a mandatory part of the tenure-track process that brings enrichment to the faculty member and the profession and results in new material that can be presented to students, as well as new skills which benefit the College community and are related to the faculty member’s assigned responsibilities. It may include investigative work or basic research; infusion of isolated facts with meaning and perspective; making connections across disciplines; making knowledge broadly accessible; the solving of problems through the use of scholarly expertise, pedagogical research, creative exploration and production; and methods for the transformation and extension of knowledge, so long as such activities enhance the faculty member’s teaching and/or the faculty member’s ability to perform his or her assigned responsibilities Service involves contributions to the improvement of the welfare of the University at the department, college and university levels. It typically also involves unpaid public service to the community or professional organizations which benefits the University.

Master’s Degree in Technical Communication or related field and 6 years of related experience; or Doctoral Degree in relevant field.
Two years teaching in higher education in a relevant field. Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication skills. Experience in preparing and disseminating technical documents for industry or government.
