Assistant or Associate Professor of Social Studies Education

A tenure-track or clinical appointment in Education at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor is available on August 1, 2015, in the Indiana University Division of Education at IUPUC.  Rank will be dependent on qualifications and evidence of scholarship.  The position is a ten-month teaching assignment with expectations of teaching a variety of courses within Education and at various academic levels, disseminating scholarship, and engaging in service. Strong oral and written communication skills are a must.  Successful teaching at the university level is very important as are appropriate scholarship, service, and civic engagement related to teaching and learning.

REQUIREMENTS:  An earned doctorate, Ph.D. or Ed.D., in Social Studies Education or a related field is required along with experience teaching at both the K-12 and university levels and experience with program assessment and accreditation.  The successful candidate will be able to teach courses in a range of teacher preparation programs, primarily in the areas of Social Studies Education.  Expertise in either Educational Foundations or Multicultural Education is also necessary to support the teaching needs of current and proposed programs.  Candidates must be able to demonstrate an ability to establish and maintain a successful program of scholarship leading to publications in peer-reviewed journals.

PREFERENCES:  Preferences include experience working with K-12 school partnerships, curriculum development, and documented coursework to support teaching in Social Studies Education and at least one other area such as Foundations or Multicultural Education. Preference will also be given to applicants who have a record of effectiveness and innovation in university teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

IUPUC is located one hour south of Indianapolis, 1¼ hours from Louisville, and 1½ hours from Cincinnati. Columbus is known for its world class architecture, wonderful programs for young children, many parks, excellent philharmonic orchestra, and people trails. IUPUC has a staff of 62 full-time faculty with excellent credentials and enrolls 2,000 students annually.
