PART-TIME STAFF ASSISTANT/ACADEMIC ADVISOR: 30 hours weekly: Hours: Mon–Thurs 11-5:30 and Friday 9-3:30. Occasional evening hours during peak times and special events. Primarily located at the Haverhill campus, one day in Lawrence. Grant funded (12/1/14 - 8/31/15) (MTA Unit position)
Provide services for targeted student populations in a grant-funded program, including the following activities: provide academic advising for Project participants including building an academic plan for each student using DegreeWorks, registering students; function as team member in multi-disciplinary program to provide a system of integrated support services to project participants in order to satisfy specific grant objectives; recruit, assess and address needs of program participants through tracking academic progress; as team member, design and implement student success workshop series for project participants; assist in arranging campus and cultural tours for Project participants to visit four-year colleges and universities; serve as mentor for assigned Project participants. Collaborate closely with the Academic Advising Center regarding advising and transfer procedures, with Financial Aid, Registrar and other areas of the college.
Master's degree in Education, Counseling or related field. Experience facilitating learning skills workshops strongly preferred. Experience in grant-funded support services with diverse student populations, preferably in a community college setting. Familiarity with academic advising and transfer services within a “grants culture” at community college level. Experience with using institutional database systems to track students’ academic progress (SCT Banner System preferred.) Experience in Microsoft Office, particularly Access and Excel, and the Internet preferred. Requires outstanding written and verbal communication skills and expertise in social and professional networking environments: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
Salary: $25.95 per hour with prorated fringe benefits.
