Creates and maintains a productive, performance-based learning environment for students in the commercial music area. Teaches jazz ensemble, jazz/rock theory, jazz improvisation, and other courses assigned by the department. Carries out commercial music area duties, such as auditions and recruiting.
Graduation from an accredited institution with terminal, earned degree appropriate to discipline. ABD accepted. Knowledge and skill in current instructional theories, strategies, techniques, and discipline content. Evidence of potential for scholarly/creative work consistent with a teaching university. See preferred qualifications for discipline or program-specific minimum qualifications.
Extensive experience in music performance.
Knowledge of the principles and methodology of contemporary performance and improvisation in a variety of genres.
Skill as an accomplished teacher and performer.
Skill in recruiting, interviewing and placement of students.
Ability to develop curriculum and teach assigned courses.
Ability to engage students in learning and performing opportunities on campus and in the community.
Ability to communicate (written and oral) with a wide variety of students, faculty and others.
