Detailed Job Description

Under limited supervision, the Fire Protection Mechanic III acts as a lead worker to perform highly skilled work in the inspection, operational/functional testing, repair, troubleshooting, and installation of fire protection systems.

Additional Department Summary:

Makes limited estimates from on-site inspections. Provides work leadership to other trades personnel. Must drive from site to site.

Required Minimum Qualifications

A high school diploma or GED and a minimum of six (6) years paid work experience in the inspection, operational/functional testing, and repair of fire protection systems.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications:

Must have NICET level II certification in the Inspection and Testing of Fire Protection Systems or pass a NICET level II certification in the Inspection and Testing of Fire Protection Systems within six (6) months of hire date. Must have some supervisory/work leadership experience. Must be able to interpret and work from sketches, specifications, plans, and blueprints. Must have the ability to use job-related tools, equipment, and supplies. Must be able to lift, handle and maneuver the tools, materials and supplies of the job. Must actively pursue training to enhance job skills and knowledge. Must be proficient with personal computer operations including knowledge in Microsoft Word & Excel. Must be able to perform those items in the Job Duties Summary. Valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 21 years of age and have an acceptable motor vehicle report as determined by the insurance carrier. Final candidates who are not current University of Alabama employees must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.
