Detailed Job Description

The Director for Multicultural Education and Training, located in the Department of Cultural and Global Engagement, is responsible for the educational advancement of multiculturalism, globalism, equity, and inclusion throughout the University community in alignment with the university’s diversity strategic plan (called "IMaGinE" - Inclusion, Multiculturalism and Globalism in Education).  In collaboration with the Director of Teaching and Learning, the Director will develop multicultural and global competency education programs for faculty and staff that have measurable outcomes and evidence of success. This individual serves as a key collaborator with student affairs by providing an environment that creates transformative leadership opportunities for all students that help promote a university community that is equitable and inclusive.

The Director will develop and implement a transformational intergroup diversity dialogue program, including but not limited to the established programs: “Circle of Perspectives,” and  “A Place at the Table”  - that demonstrates specific learning and measureable outcomes.  Working closely with the staff in the Department of Cultural and Global Engagement, the Director will work on a variety of initiatives designed to support and retain underrepresented students including campus unity programs, academic heritage celebrations, religious events, and the QU Mentorship Program. The position reports to the AVP/ Chief Diversity Officer in the Academic Affairs unit.

  • Collaborate closely with the Director for Teaching and Learning to raise cultural competencies and provide on-going educational dialog for faculty.
  • Develop an intergroup diversity dialogue program including but not limited to already established programs  (Circle of Perspectives and a Place at the Table)  with specific learning and assessment outcomes.
  • Work with Global Education staff to integrate students' international experiences back to the campus and the community to create Global Citizens.
  • Working closely with Student Affairs to create a Cultural Competence Certificate that creates leadership opportunities for all students to help promote a university community that is equitable and inclusive.
  • Collaborate with Student Affairs and Human Resources to facilitate and promote Safe Space training to raise awareness of LGTBQ issues on campus.
  • Oversee Anti-Bias Training to educate the campus community on the procedures for reporting racial, ethnic bias incidents and developing awareness.
  • Provide resources (such as articles, webinars, workshops) and best practices to faculty and staff for advancing multicultural and global education.
  • Ensure the evaluation and assessment of programs sponsored by the Department of Cultural and Global Education.
  • Continue to identify and execute both formal and informal means of delivery for diversity and inclusion training to the faculty who teach the freshmen seminar courses.
  • Supervise and guide the Assistant Director of Multicultural Education, who is focused on working with students and developing cultural programming on campus.
  • Oversight of religious life programming and activities, which includes the supervision of four religious leaders (Catholic, Protestant, Muslim, and Jewish Chaplains).
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications & Special Instructions to Applicants


Master’s Degree from accredited institution with an emphasis in Student Leadership and Development Theory, Multicultural educational theory, or a related field. 

Three to five years of direct experience in cross cultural immersion, multicultural educational training and assessment, and working with diverse populations.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Knowledge of racial and cultural identity theories
  • Knowledge and experience of training and development educational programs with learning & assessment outcomes.
  • Skills in developing partnerships with constituents in Student Affairs, Academic Affairs and Admissions
  • Skills in organizational and budget management
  • Public speaking and mediation strategies
  • Ability to take initiative and exercise leaderships skills and communicate effectively in written and oral form
  • Ability to work & communicate with diverse populations, with specific expertise in LGBTQ topics and issues.
