The Department of Modern Languages invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor position (Category I) in Spanish to begin August 2015.


Teach undergraduate courses in Spanish language, literature and culture at the annual academic year load of 24 semester credit hours or the equivalent; day, evening, and weekend, as needed.

In addition, assist with the coordination of courses for pre-service teachers; liaison with the Dept. of Teacher Education in support of this program in MDL; assist with the development of curriculum for language methodology courses; and supervise the pre-service teacher field experience.

The University is particularly interested in applicants who have experience working with students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for under-represented groups. Required Qualifications

PhD in target language or related field. Doctorate degree conferred by December 2014.

Preferred Qualifications

Evidence of excellence in undergraduate teaching, including delivery of general education courses and the ability to teach about ethnic minorities; experience in proficiency-based language instruction; experience with coordination of teacher education programs. Demonstrated experience successfully teaching, mentoring, and advising diverse, underserved students, including students of color and non-traditional students. Interest and capability in new and emerging learning and instructional technologies and their integration in the teaching environment and service learning.
Native or near-native language skills in Spanish and English.The candidate must have some level of teaching experience at a US educational institution undergraduate or postgraduate (postgraduate teaching experience desired.)
