The College of Architecture and Environmental Design (CAED) at Kent State University is seeking applicants for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor in Interior Design with responsibilities in teaching and with research expertise in one of the following: lighting, environmental behavior, or history of interiors.  


The successful candidate will be expected to bring an active research agenda highlighted by peer recognition and be capable of illustrating achievements in design studio instruction. Teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate instruction in studio-based and lecture settings within the Interior Design Program and may include teaching in the CAED allied programs of architecture and architectural studies. An active role in curriculum development for a proposed master degree will also be expected.


The interior design program contributes to Kent State’s CAED through its mission to enhance undergraduate and graduate education.  Opportunities exist for collaborating with programs of architecture, architectural studies, and the master degree programs in healthcare design, landscape architecture, urban design, architecture, and focused research in environmental design which are offered at the Kent Campus and the Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative location.  In 2016, the CAED will occupy a new home on the Kent Campus designed by Weiss/Manfredi and Richard L. Required Qualifications:
•    Must possess one degree in interior design
•    Doctoral degree
•    Record of scholarly activity
•    NCIDQ certified
•    Minimum 5 years teaching experience


Preferred Qualifications:
•    Professional experience
•    Record of developing and implementing academic programs and courses
•    Record of development and participation in cross-disciplinary endeavors
•    Record of acquiring grant-supported scholarship


The position is a nine-month appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. Salary is competitive and negotiable. The anticipated starting date is August 2015.   Review of applications will begin: January 15, 2015.
