Detailed Job Description

The Assistant Sports Information Director will be a liaison to national, state and local media, as well as the general public for the University of Alabama Athletics Department. Duties include, but are not limited to, maintaining and reporting statistics, preparing game programs, updating the Athletics Department web site, arranging photography for athletic events, developing and submitting nominations for athletic awards, preparing news releases, supervising staffing of home athletic contests, and managing and training student assistants.

Additional Department Summary:

Coordinate and supervise information that satisfies media requirements and creates interest in the University of Alabama's athletics program with a primary emphasis on baseball. Make consistent efforts to present information to the news media and groups including alumni, lettermen, faculty, students and fans in a positive manner with honesty and integrity. Establish and maintain relationships with local and national media in promoting Crimson Tide athletics while demonstrating an innovative approach with a strategic mindset.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or higher in Communications, Information Science, Journalism, Broadcasting, Public Relations, Advertising, English or a relevant field and at least two (2) years of relevant media relations experience in a collegiate or professional sports environment. Student assistant, graduate assistant, intern, or student oriented experience will be considered. To be considered student experience must be detailed in the employment section on the application.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications:

Strong demonstrated writing and editing ability. Experience in publication design and layout. Associated Press-style writing skills and proficiency in layout and design software (Photoshop and InDesign) are required. Work schedule requires weekend and night work as needed, as well as regular office hours. Travel is required.Valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 21 years of age and have an acceptable motor vehicle report as determined by the insurance carrier. Skills and Knowledge:Sound professional judgment and creative thinking. Computer skills should include proficiency in web editing, desktop publishing, and experience operating computer stat packages. Effective verbal and oral communication. Strong interpersonal, organizational, multi-tasking skills. Ability to meet deadlines and work with a diversified population of constituencies. Preferred Qualifications:At least three (3) years of relevant media relations experience is preferred. Experience as a baseball contact is preferred. 56 Monthly (exempt): - Minimum - $ 28537.56 Midpoint - $ 39956.76
