The Department of Statistics, Purdue University invites applications for two faculty positions beginning August 2015. Both hires will join an exciting, modern, and established department that includes applied, theoretical and computational statisticians. The first position is at the level of Associate Professor (with tenure) rank in the area of Actuarial Science. Together with the Department of Mathematics, Purdue Statistics administers the degree granting Actuarial Sciences Program to over 300 undergraduates. The Actuarial Science Program has an established relationship with the Regenstrief Center for Healthcare Engineering (RCHE; http://www.purdue.edu/discoverypark/rche/). Both faculty and students are uniquely positioned to take advantage of the healthcare focused research opportunities, as well as the environment that RCHE has to offer. All applicants should hold a Ph.D. in Statistics or a related field, have an established research program in Actuarial Science, be committed to excellence in teaching, and have demonstrated excellence in collaborative research involving undergraduates. Additionally, the successful candidate is expected to hold or pursue actuarial credentials (Associate or Fellow) bestowed by the Society of Actuaries, Casualty Actuarial Society, Canadian Institute of Actuaries, Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (UK), or Institute of Actuaries of Australia. Responsibilities included conducting advanced research in statistics and teach undergraduate and graduate level courses.
The second position is at the level of Assistant Professor (tenure-track) in the area of statistical bioinformatics. This hire will join a well-established group of statistical bioinformaticians working in a diverse range of areas. Purdue Statistics is dedicated to bringing forward thinking, up-to-date novel statistical solutions and computing to relevant biological problems of societal concern. All applicants should hold a Ph.D. in Statistics or a related field, be committed to excellence in teaching, and have demonstrated strong potential for excellence in statistical bioinformatics research, collaboration, and consulting. Responsibilities include conducting advanced research in Statistics and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses.
