Detailed Job Description

Under the direction of the Aviation Science Chair, the Tenure-Track Faculty will: teach courses and assess performance of aviation education, training and certification; participate collaboratively and professionally with other faculty and staff in scholarly research; promote the general wellbeing of the department and the university, and the collective and individual interest of its staff and student body; support and seek always to fulfill the guiding concepts for the college embodied in the philosophy, mission, values and vision adopted by UVU.
-Teach courses in aviation administration curriculum and provides classroom and/or on line instruction equivalent to 15 credit hours per semester.
-Coordinate between students, teaching assistants, other faculty members and a wide variety of support personnel available to students, including advisement, career assistance, and additional student-centered initiatives promoted by the university.
-Contribute to the academic reputation and stature of the program through quality teaching, research and participation in the aviation community.
-Utilize current industry practices to teach in specialty areas such as aviation administration, aviation law, insurance, and other specialties found in a comprehensive collegiate aviation administration program.
-Produce and publish scholarly research in a field of aviation-related expertise.
-Assist the Department Chair in writing grants, accreditation, and service through academic committees as required by the department, college or university.
-Perform quality management and supervision of aviation instruction programs through the use of "state of the art" resources.
-Develop outcome assessment criteria as required by the department, college and university.
-Utilize interpersonal problem solving skills in order to interact effectively with other faculty, staff and students.
-Prepare reports and other professional documents, as well as prepare instructional materials (course syllabi, lockups, visual aids, and instruction sheets).
-Assist in developing other academic curricula as needed by the college, school, or department.
-Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Earned Doctorate in Aviation, Transportation, Business or a related discipline from a regionally accredited university required. Expertise including but not limited to air traffic control, airport management / operations, airline management / operations, Fixed Base Operation (FBO) management, aviation safety, aircraft accident investigation, aviation law, aircraft maintenance management, aerospace management. Higher Education teaching experience and scholarly achievement in aviation management / operations with a history of publications and research.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

-Knowledge of subject matter and course content.
-Ability to teach college/university level aviation courses (face to face or online) with the knowledge and skill to encourage a high degree of interactivity with students and department staff using a wide variety of methodology.
-Skill in effective instructional strategies and techniques including the ability to develop outcome assessments.
-Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative data analysis and research methodology.
-Ability to manage, motivate, and evaluate students and their instruction.
-Effective interpersonal, problem solving and decision making skills.
-Ability to communicate effectively.
-Knowledge of teaching issues, challenges and completion strategies.
-Knowledge and skill using current computer programs and software.
-Knowledge of current Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) policies, regulations and procedures.
-Ability to harmonize instruction with standardized industry practices and department safety objectives.

Selective Placement Factors

May be required to teach evening, face to face, online, blended or off campus courses.
