The Communication Arts and Sciences Department cultivates expertise in understanding, evaluating, and producing communication. We seek candidates whose teaching and research interests expand and support our Strategic Organizational Communication emphasis and our general studies courses. A colleague in Communication Arts and Sciences is expected to value the teaching focus of the university, bring a broad intellectual outlook, support the methodological and theoretical diversity within the field. enjoy interdisciplinary collaboration, and actively engage in scholarship. We welcome candidates whose teaching and scholarship expand and support the existing strengths found in our department. Further, the person in this position should embrace our department’s philosophy that our courses integrate disciplinary theory along with applied knowledge and demonstrated practical experience.
Teaching, Scholarship, Service
1. Teach a four/four load. This includes preparing for course assigned, and assessing student progress, and the use of technology as appropriate.
2. Advise students, involving activities specifically assisting students in choosing career options; staying informed of University policies; choosing a degree program; successfully completing his/her degree; and obtaining employment or graduate school placement.
3. Pursue a program of scholarship that contributes to teaching and active publication
4. Engage in service to the department, college and profession.
Ph.D. in Human Communication, Speech Communication, Communication Studies, Communication Arts, or closely related discipline.
Preferred: 1) college teaching experience; 2) scholarly interests that complement the department; 3) Experience with non-traditional students and diverse urban groups 4) ability to integrate technology into course content and use available technology in teaching; 5) demonstrate the ability to teach from a perspective that includes U.S. ethnic minorities, other marginalized groups, and/or women; 6) course assessment and development; 7) demonstrated interest in working with diverse students in programs of recruitment and retention.
