Job Description:

The Director of the Veterans Center and Student Services plans, organizes, directs and implements activities and programs related to student veterans and other student support services including Health Services and the Office for Students with Disabilities. The Director creates a vision for an inclusive campus environment that addresses the unique needs of student veterans and all BHCC students, including veteran friendly services and an increased understanding on campus of student needs.


  • Manage the daily operation of the Veterans Center, Health Services Office and Office for Students with Disabilities including staff supervision, training, scheduling and evaluation of full-time and part-­time staff and work-study students.
  • Identify external community-based organizations serving Veterans; establish a network to recruit veterans to the College
  • Streamline communications and processes to provide a more seamless transition for veterans to the College.
  • Assess unique veteran needs and collaborate with other College departments to implement teaching, learning and support strategies to increase veteran student success.
  • Consult with veterans regarding their academic concerns and assist them in accessing internal and external resources to address their needs; serve as Veteran student advocate.
  • Develop programs and activities for members of the College community to increase understanding of student veterans.
  • Assist in planning and implementing student development programs for Veterans and all BHCC students and assist in addressing and resolving student challenges and issues.
  • Collaborate with the Coordinator of Health Services and Coordinator of the Office for Students with Disabilities to plan and implement programs to meet student needs and specific Office goals.
  • Collaborate with Communications Department to develop promotional material for outreach to community organizations, prospective student veterans, and the College community both in print and on-line.
  • Maintain knowledge of federal and state legislation, rules, regulations, policies and procedures pertaining to veteran student benefits; collaborate with College's certifying officials to ensure compliance.
  • Maintain knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act, HIPAA, and other related regulatory agencies, and ensure compliance with all rules, regulations and procedures.
  • In collaboration with the College's certifying official, process Veteran student eligibility and applications, maintain records in compliance with federal and state requirements, and in preparation for corresponding audits.
  • Develop and maintain proficiency in the use of BHCC Technology.
  • Compile and maintain data, and prepare reports including student persistence and success.
  • Develop assessment process for Student Development Learning Outcomes in areas of responsibility.
  • Pursue external funding opportunities to enhance services, in collaboration with the College Grant Office.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Master's degree
  • Experience working in higher education
  • A minimum of three years management experience including supervisory experience; proven ability in effective supervision, budget management, and working with a diverse population
  • Demonstrated excellence in oral, written and interpersonal communications
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with veterans and students with disabilities preferred
  • Experience working in a unionized environment preferred

Additional Information

Salary Range: $75,000.00/yr.
