Full-time Counselor
10-Month Tenure Track Position
Representative Duties:
Work with students to develop comprehensive individualized educational program plans. E
Assist in the organization and implementation of matriculation activities, such as orientation, assessment, and progress follow-up. E
Participate in developing and implementing strategies and materials to increase student retention and transfer rates. E
Select and interpret educational, vocational and personal assessment instruments.
Participate in the articulation process. E
Participate in all levels of program review related to counseling and matriculation services.
Facilitate group counseling sessions. E
Present workshops on a variety of topics. E
Teach guidance classes in career planning re-entry, and academic success. E
Outreach/liaison to local high schools and community agencies. E
Participate in program and curriculum development. E
Counsel/advise students, teach scheduled classes and perform related duties as assigned; familiar with crisis intervention techniques and appropriate referrals. E
Comply with District policies and procedures in the performance of all duties. E
Participate in staff development activities. E
Serve on area and college-wide committees as necessary to support and enrich college programs, activities and initiatives. E
Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of students and colleagues. E
Promote the success of diverse student population. E
Work effectively and collaboratively in a team environment. E

Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, or career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family and child counseling, OR the equivalent.

(NOTE: A bachelor’s degree in one of the above listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.)

Full-time Counselor (SSSP Grant Funded)
10-Month Non-Tenure Track Position (categorically funded position, employment is subject to availability of SSSP funds)

Full-time Counselor, DSPS
10-Month Tenure Track Position
Representative Duties:
Provide professional, academic/vocational, personal and disability-related counseling. E
Verify student eligibility for DSPS programs and services. E
Identify functional limitations. E
Determine reasonable accommodations. E
Develop individual education plans. E
Provide and document appropriate services. E
Refer students to other appropriate services. E
Work with appropriate personnel in meeting the federal requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act, 504 regulations Title V guidelines governing the implementation of AB77, and all other laws that pertain to access for persons with disabilities in higher education. E
Maintain liaison with appropriate community agencies. E
Participate in program, curriculum and staff development activities, and serve on area and college-wide committees as necessary to support and enrich the instructional program. E
Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural disability and ethnic backgrounds of students and colleagues. E
Administer  and interpret LD (Learning Disability) testing instruments. E
Promote the success of a diverse student population through careful preparation of course materials, and effective teaching methodologies. E
Provide critical feedback on all assignments. E

Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The minimum qualifications for service as a community college counselor of students with disabilities shall be satisfied by meeting one of the following requirements;
(1) Possession of a master’s degree, or equivalent foreign degree, in rehabilitation counseling, or
(2) Possession of a master’s degree, or equivalent foreign degree, in special education, and twenty four or more semester units in upper division or graduate level course work in counseling, guidance, student personnel, psychology, or social work; or
(3) A master’s degree in counseling, guidance, student personnel, psychology, career development, or social welfare; and either twelve or more semester units in upper division or graduate level course work specifically in counseling or rehabilitation of individuals with disabilities, or two years of full-time experience, or the equivalent, in one or more of the following;

(A) Counseling or guidance for students with disabilities; or
(B) Counseling and/or guidance in industry, government, public agencies, military or private social welfare organizations in which the responsibilities of the position were predominantly or exclusively for persons with disabilities.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
LD (Learning Disability) Certification; experience in administering and interpreting LD tests
