Under the direction of the Dean and the Chair of the Department of Secondary Education, teaches undergraduate and graduate teacher education courses in Curriculum and Instruction and other courses as deemed appropriate to the department’s needs; supervises graduate students as they complete a master’s thesis in Curriculum and Instruction in the Master of Education degree program; engages with partner school district teachers and administrators to enhance UVU student teacher education; produces scholarly work; provides service to the university and community; supports collegiality; and upholds professional and ethical standards.
Graduation with a doctorate from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service. Normally will have produced creative work, professional writing or research in refereed and other professional journals. Must have experience assessing student learning capabilities and learning styles and understand how to develop curriculum of assigned courses.
Graduation from a regionally accredited institution with an earned doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction or closely related field (or making significant progress toward a doctoral degree)
Knowledge of content and skills required to teach courses in Curriculum and Instruction to prospective teachers and graduate students
Three years of successful 7-12 public school teaching experience
Excellent communication skills and ability to relate well with students and colleagues
Evidence of scholarly potential
Experience with embedded teacher preparation
Experience and commitment to university/public school partnerships
Background in educational technology and/or Teaching English as a Second Language (ESL)
Successful college/university level teaching experience
Experience working with graduate student research
Knowledge of content and skills required to teach courses in Curriculum and Instruction to pre-service teachers and graduate students in the teacher education program (School of Education)
Knowledge of current trends and innovations in pre-service teacher education
Knowledge of cultural relevancy and diversity in the field of education
Knowledge of and willingness to uphold professional and ethical teaching standards
Skill in managing a productive teaching/learning environment
Skill in mentoring graduate students to complete master’s program thesis
Ability to teach effectively in a serious, inclusive, and engaged learning environment
Ability to communicate and relate positively with colleagues, students, and 7-12 personnel
Ability to produce scholarly work
Ability and willingness to serve on school and university committees
