Under the direction of the Dean of the College of HSS and the Communication Department Chair, teaches a full load of courses (4/4) in the Department of Communication. Prepares instructional materials (course outlines, syllabi, exams, etc.) as necessary. Maintains student-centered approach to education. Provides service to the college and University and conducts research relative to improving pedagogy or to advance knowledge in discipline. Pursues and develops strong ties with academic associations and professional PR/Media organizations and businesses in the state, region and nation.
Graduation with a doctorate from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service. Normally will have produced creative work, professional writing or research in refereed and other professional journals. Must have experience assessing student learning capabilities and learning styles and understand how to develop curriculum of assigned courses.
A Ph.D. (or ABD) in public relations/mass communications or an MA in public relations (or a similar field) and at least 5 years experience in public relations industry.
Knowledge of and demonstrated competence of professional public relations practices and applications.
Knowledge of teaching through implementation of appropriate pedagogy, clear presentation and preparation.
Knowledge of classroom instruction, curriculum development, and program assessment.
Knowledge of developing and coordinating undergraduate student programs and activities.
Skill in interpersonal communication.
Skill in problem solving and decision-making.
Ability to service the department and college through shared faculty governance, including departmental and school-wide committees.
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing and publish and/or present scholarly research. Ability to use online learning tools and mechanisms.
Ability to develop, coordinate, manage and foster teamwork among diverse education and training programs.
Ability to function effectively on a variety of committees and assignments that serve the needs of the University.
Ability to interact personally with students and other faculty members in a congenial and productive manner.
Ability to teach across spectrum including Introduction to Public Relations, PR writing, PR Campaigns, Portfolio Development, Social Media, Crisis Communication, Media Relations, PR Theory.
