Detailed Job Description

The Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology is seeking a Clinical Faculty member to teach and coordinate an exciting new curriculum in American Sign Language (ASL) developed within a Disability Studies program. The ASL program at Miami University began in 2013 and a person in this position has the opportunity to develop and solidify the pedagogy for the program.


This Clinical Faculty member will be responsible for teaching and coordinating beginning through advanced levels; working with additional instructors assigned to the ASL courses; coordinating syllabi and final exams and providing mentorship. Additional teaching and service assignments within the department may include a course on Deaf culture that is open to all university majors. Some clinical supervision opportunities may also be available. Responsibilities will also include providing service to the institution.

Basic Qualifications

Near native fluency in ASL; expertise in foreign language pedagogy; earned a Master's degree in the area of communication sciences or a Doctorate of Audiology, applicants with a Master's degree as their highest degree should have at least 3 years of post-graduate work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D. in the area of communication sciences. Applicants with CCC-SLP or CCC-A certification and eligibility for Ohio licensure are preferred.
