Detailed Job Description

Under direction of the Dean of School of Business, the Assistant Dean - Advancement will: represent the School of Business to external parties including business leaders, government leaders, and philanthropists; represent the dean at various functions within the college and in the community; build excellent public relations with local, regional, national, and international businesses and other appropriate organizations; be an integral member of the leadership of the school by contributing input on strategic directions of the school; create a development plan to fund school initiatives and work with the dean to establish appropriate development priorities; work directly with the Division of Development and Alumni Relations to coordinate fund raising activities across campus.
Essential Functions, Major Duties and/or Accountabilities:
Develops a base of support for the School of Business with business leaders locally and throughout the state.
Prepares a development plan for the School of Business for both annual giving and major gifts and obtain approval of the dean.
Successfully carries out out the approved development plan by working collaboratively with development officers across campus to achieve the goals of the school and of the university.
Makes appropriate introductions of supporters to the dean, faculty, and other administrators of the college; represents the Dean internally as assigned and externally at various community events and functions.
Maintains involvement in appropriate community and professional organizations that will bring positive attention to the school including providing support to the School of Business National Advisory Council.
Maintains excellent records, per college standards, on donor prospects, including pertinent information on individuals, businesses, and interest in and ability to support the school's initiatives and programs.
Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor degree in a related field and one year of related experience or any combination of education and experience totaling five years.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

- Knowledge of and significant direct experience with fund raising procedures, techniques, and the ability to apply this knowledge in personal fund raising.
- Demonstrated ability to work with business, philanthropic, and community leaders.
- The ability to plan effective development strategies for donors.
- Knowledge of gift planning strategies.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of academic operations, governance, and culture.
- Ability to think conceptually, globally, and understand the comprehensive operation of an institution of higher education.
- Ability to appropriately represent the dean/unit leader and the interests of their unit.
- Effective problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Experience with administration, including methods and techniques for the preparation and analysis of budgets and the review of expenditure with conformity with budgets.
- Strong aptitude with standard office productivity software, which must include MS Office programs.
- Strong knowledge of effective web-based search engines and search strategies.
- Ability to effectively manage records and databases.
- Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community and a strong strategic planner and critical thinker; exceptionally collaborative and team-focused; possess a professional outlook and keen sense of accountability for their efforts; and be highly energetic, focused, and outcomes-oriented.
